I'm a Tubber!

Well...I did it! I caved in to peer pressure and I'm starting to do movie and book reviews on YouTube. I may even use my channel to do blogs/vlogs. It's been so long since I've wrote about myself and my run-abouts, I hope that the YouTube hobby will help me with it. Any help, constructive criticisms and suggestions are welcomed on what to do with my page. Thanks!

So, here is my introduction to the YouTube Community.

Court and Cats

Yesterday was a busy one. At work, I spent a good portion of my day in a court trial. A weird kind of trial, but a trial none the less. At my job, we had an ex-employee file for unemployment after only being here for 7 weeks. He wants to get employment from us, but he also found himself in a tight spot as he was collecting unemployment when he was working here and may have to pay it back depending on the judge’s decision. The odd trial was done all over the phone. When my boss and I started the phone call, we didn’t realize that it was an official trail, we thought it was going to be a conference call. The ex-employee had a lawyer, we were sworn in, and I was used as a witness. We were left surprised, defending ourselves in the trial. Overall I think it went well, but we’ll see once the judge makes his decisions.

But last night, my wonderful mom took me to see the musical Cats. Surprisingly, being the musical theater fan I am, I’ve never seen this show. Kids got to go to the show early and get their faces painted and the actor interacted very well with the audience, running up and down the aisle. The play didn’t have much of a plot, but the music, costumes and acrobatics we’re amazing! A fun show for everyone. I’m so glad I finally got to see it.

How Important Is Voting - From An Immigrant’s Point Of View

My fellow Americans, election time is getting closer and closer. As we prepare for November 4th to come along we’re bombarded with the media and politics, but does the media honestly show what is important to the country? We have celebrities trying to influence us or better yet, try to “sell us” our vote. Last Wednesday night while watching late night talk shows, I heard the best Political campaign come from Craig Ferguson. Craig in the last year has become a citizen of the U.S. and him voicing how important it is to vote struck a chord with me. He will not say who he is voting for, and I say...good for him! I want everyone to check out these videos and hopefully you'll have your eyes opened to how important voting truly is, while enjoying a good chuckle.

Whatever Happened To...

Crispy M&M's? My co-worker and I were talking about this and we think that these should definitely come back. We went online to see if they were still being produced, but it looks like they were axed.

But hey! No fear...there is an online petition to get these back. If you care to, sign it.

The Funny Men at Thanksgiving Point

Last night I took my parents out for the 39th Wedding Anniversary and to celebrate I took them to see a couple of outstanding stand-up comics. Opening the show was Kermit Apio. He spoke about living in Hawaii and how some people in the U.S. think that's a foreign place, reminisced about Walkman and made fun of the Wendover tree.

The headliner was Brian Regan, who is probably one of the most brilliant funny men out there. He's very clean with his humor and spoke of thing most everyone can relate to, such as baseball umpires, watching Nova and telling stories of this childhood. Everyone was cracking up!

I had a great time at the show, but if anyone works for Thanksgiving Point, please tell them that they SERIOUSLY need help with their parking. Before the show, we ended up walking 35 minutes to get to the venue because of no parking. We had to go to a neighboring venue (us and about 400 other cars), just to find a place to squeeze our vehicle in. Then, Thanksgiving Point must not know what full capacity is. I'd say the over sold the show by about 800 people. We were there 45 minutes early and we ended up sitting in the very back. We really didn't see the show, but mostly listened to it.

Even with these issues, the show was remarkable. If you can catch either of these comic on stage, I highly recommend seeing them. I hoping they'll will return again next year.

Mongol

Mongol
Rated R
126 Minutes
Nicole’s Rating: A

Strangers become friends; Friends become brothers; Brothers become enemies. This is only one of the bases of a film that portrays the greatest conquer to live…Genghis Khan.

*~* WARNING: May Contain Spoilers *~*

The movie starts off with Temudjin (young Genghis Khan) at the age of nine, where he is riding off with his father to choose his future bride. This happy moment is overcome by one of the many battles that he will face in his lifetime. Only nine and he is forced to run away to save himself and his family, finally returning 8 years later, to marry. Only a few days after his betrothal, his enemies the Makita kidnap her in revenge. Much of the story is based on the love he has for his wife, his family and his clan he will go to any lengths for them, even war.

I admit, I don’t know much about Genghis Khan. I thought of him as being a war monger who used women for his pleasures and men for his battles. This movie changes every view I had of him. It shows that he was a man of honor, with values and tried to set up the world to live by them.

This movie had exquisite scenery and cinematography. As for the acting, they all did a great portrayal of life and hard times of the era. The young children did an outstanding job, for most of them this was their first film.

The only issue I had with the film is the “doltishness” of the subtitles. There seemed to be a lot more speaking that what the subtitles showed, but again, I’m not sure how complex or simple the Mongolian and Mandarin languages are, it just felt like it. And if I had another issues with the film, it’s the limited release it had, only showing in 240 movie screens worldwide. This movie could go much farther than that.

This movie was remarkable and I highly suggest it if you can watch the graphic violence of war. This film had a similar feel to Braveheart, so if you enjoyed that, you won’t be disappointed with this one.

The Fall

The Fall
Rated ~ R

117 Minutes
Nicole’s Rating: A+

I don’t think I’ve seen a movie this brilliant and exuberant in the past 10 years. Once in a blue moon a movie gets everything exactly right; from the writing, casting, score, costumes, direction, cinematography, blocking etc. and this was it.

Roy, young actor in early Hollywood (1920’s), has fallen off a bridge during a stunt act which lands him in the hospital. During his stay there, he meets up with Alexandria, a young girl who has also taken a bad fall from picking oranges in her family’s orchard. Roy tells her wild fantasies in exchange for her doing favors for him around the hospital, while he can’t get out of bed. The stories come to life in the mind of Alexandria and when they do, you mind is feed with an excellent story of five bandits out for the revenge of a man that has done them all wrong. I honestly cannot give this movie justice with my description; it’s something that you’ll have to visualize yourself so I’ll embed the trailer in this blog, so you can grasp the wonderful scenes.

The two main actors Catinca Untaru (Alexandria) and Lee Pace (Roy), pulled off amazing characterizations and the interaction between the two couldn't be any better.

I honestly and truly cannot figure out why this movie is rated R. It has one curse word (damn), no sexuality of any kind and the violence is even more mild than what can be seen on any night of the week on network television. The only think that can remotely make it –R- rated is the seriousness of the subject of death and suicide, but that should only make it PG-13. I wouldn’t mind anyone over the age of 12 seeing this, and I hope that everyone does eventually see it. Yes it is an independent film, but it has all the qualities of major motion picture, if not better. I would LOVE to see Hollywood produce films of this merit and I'm hoping to see this be an Oscar contender for next year.

Skip out on ‘Sex in the City’ and ‘Indiana Jones’, and go to see this.

YouTube Entertainment

It’s been quiet couple of days for me. So when it’s quiet, I get lazy. I’ve spent most of my time catching up on the TV shows and Podcasts, taking stupid online quizzes, and hanging out on YouTube. These are the main reasons why I work two jobs….well, that and the needed money for the Camaro fund. I thought I’d share a some videos that I find myself going back to now and then, just for a good laugh.

I can't go too long without something about The Beatles or Transformers. You children of the 80's that saw the animated film back in the day will get a kick out of this:

You might have to turn up the volume on this one:

And finally, one of my favorite Podcasts! I can spend hours watching "The Ninja".
